Autumn 2020

 PHRASE OF THE QUARTER

"lol she's frozen"

Seeing my peers make the best out of COVID was the highlight of my quarter. From online dance classes to Zoom parties, I appreciated the creativity and humor that arose to make the most out of this pandemic.

Class

PHIL 118

This class was about ethical persuasion and was absolutely fascinating. I learned what it really means to persuade someone, and how we can all be effective and respectful persuaders. Despite it being the first time this class was offered, it was a great experience because Professor Marshall really enjoyed teaching the material.

Joining Natya

Since I was 4, I have been dancing Bharatanatyam, a form of Indian classical dance. I auditioned for Natya, UW's premier Indian classical dance team, in the beginning of this quarter and was overjoyed when I got in. It was the first time I had been in a competitive environment for dance and getting into Natya boosted my confidence as a dancer a lot, because it proved that I could hold my own. Since joining, I have enjoyed getting to know the team and spending time with them. I couldn't imagine this quarter without them and consider myself very lucky to be a part of this team.

The equation sheet I created for my first physics midterm. I enjoy making study tools, so creating this sheet was both useful and satisfying.

Conquering Physics (ish)

This quarter, I took Honors Physics 141 even though I did not need a physics credit. In high school, physics was the one subject that I did not have confidence in, so I took this class as a way to get over my insecurity. Though my first midterm went terribly, my second one improved by 20 points. Although it's still not an A, I'm proud that I'm going out of my comfort zone to study physics because in the future, I'll need ways to keep going even though I don't feel comfortable with the content. Physics was kind of a test trial, and it's going very well so far.

Some Random Sentences

This quarter I took CSE 143, where I created some really interesting projects. I learned that programming has a lot of complexity and new skills can be difficult to grasp. However, I met new friends and had a lot of fun working through problems with them. They motivated me to work hard in the class, because I wanted to be able to help them with problems, and I also had fun talking and gaming with them.
